Success Stories
There are several STORIES that reveal how much the American kids have already learned, and how deeply touched they are. Indeed, many have taken on KIDS HELPING KIDS personally.
A second grader gave me a BIG hug, and said “can you take this hug to Africa!”
A fifth grade girl ask for money instead of gifts for her birthday. She donated 100% of the money to KIDS HELPING KIDS. When asked to clarify her wonderful, generous decision, she said “I don’t need 27 gifts when I have the opportunity to help other kids who have so little when I have so much!”
A kindergarten kid confused his mother when he came home after learning about KIDS HELPING KIDS in his class that day. She reported that he was frantically searching for coins under the car seat and in the furniture cracks. He explained to his mother that he thought he could help these kids in Tanzania who had so much less than we do! When questioned, he took out a globe and showed his mother Africa, Tanzania, and explained the Southern Hemisphere.
After presenting to a fifth grade class the experiences we had on one of our African trips, one boy asked: “What does it feel like to eat there, when you know that some of these kids don’t always get their daily meal?”
Our program is only 4 years old, but already we can point to a number of SUCCESSES. We have taught over 2000 American kids about the tremendous needs of other kids in their world, and that they can choose to help.
Over 600 American kids have been inspired to raise money which they are donating to KIDS HELPING KIDS to directly help other kids on the other side of our world.
Nearly 1000 African students benefited from school supplies sent to them by American kids.
Five primary schools are being supported in northern Tanzania which has improved the lives of 4000 pupils (25% of whom are orphans).
Our American kids have had several “ project exchanges” that have resulted in deep learning experiences. They have done questions and answers, received cinnamon and black pepper corns, received photos, created an English-Swahili Dictionary, and received African folk music instruments. They have also been able to view a DVD of the welcoming ceremony the African students created.
There are nearly 60 adults whose large donations have helped to make basic improvements to the Tanzanian schools’ infrastructure. We have totally changed the lives of the kids at 3 of our 5 primary schools: Mhelo has received electricity, water, toilets, and washing facilities; Baghai has received water and a watering system for their school garden; Kwembago has received water plus toilets with privacy doors and infracture improvements in their class buildings that were falling apart because they lacked a solid foundation. Plans are already in place to build a new classroom building at Yaghoi to reduce the nearly 100 kids in the younger classes.
More than $21,000 has been raised from individuals who share our dedication to making a difference in the lives of kids.
